FastFig: Calculator and Word Processor

With math being the most tutored subject in school, there are no doubt many learners who are especially struggling during this pandemic, particularly those students who are not able to find or afford tutoring. The app that we are looking at today is well suited for students who struggle with math but do not have quick access to a teacher, friend, parent, or tutor who can check or correct their work.

FastFig is a free, web-based calculator/word processor that allows users to write, edit and instantly solve complex mathematical equations. FastFig documents also incorporate rich text formatting, allowing to work with headers and other basic formatting options. Pictures, videos, and graphs can also be added, something that could be especially helpful for visual learners.

The app is a bit light on formatting options, but this should be expected with a math-based app. Instead, FastFig focuses on the numbers. The app features a robust, searchable function library nestled inside of a complete scientific calculator, and the built-in help center offers a function and syntax reference list, so users can quickly understand the language required to create and solve complex (or simple) equations. It’s also worth mentioning that actions can be undone or redone with the click of a button just like with any other word processor.

The built-in help center also offers FAQs, live chat, how-tos, and lots of tutorials and other reference materials. The developers of the app have even prepared a 4-part video series that servers as great introduction to the app and all that it can do. To watch these video tutorials, click here.

FastFig documents save and sync automatically, making it easy to write equations on the go. Sharing and collaborating is easy to do, as documents can be instantly shared via Email, Facebook, Twitter, embedded on a website, or shared via copy-able link. Getting started with the app is also quite easy, and it only takes a couple seconds to create a free FastFig account.

And for teachers, FastFigEDU offers a dedicated cloud-based subscription service designed for teaching math and science for all grades. To learn more about FastFigEDU, click here.
