WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps William Listen to His Clients

A man sits across the table, appearing to give advice.

William is a counsellor, and he works with individuals experiencing work-related illnesses — such as depression, anxiety, chronic pain, or PTSD — using various evidence based treatments. For his work with clients and colleagues, Rob needs to listen intently and accurately.

However, he has hearing loss in both ears affecting his communication at work. With much of his work done online, William finds he often has to ask clients and colleagues to repeat themselves.

His audiologist at the Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility referred him to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for funding for a new set of hearing aids, and he was assisted in the application process by WorkBC Employment Services.

In the end, William received funding for a new set of hearing aids, which have hands-free Bluetooth compatibility with his computer and phone, making his workday much easier.

William says he feels more efficient in his work with clients. He also praises the service he received from WorkBC Assistive Technology Services staff, describing them as fun to work with, patient, and they made the application process easy.

“Thank you. Assistive Technology Services has been a pleasure and joy to work with. [Your staff] provide a warm, genuine and effective ‘face’ to ATS, and I am telling people about what a valuable and accessible service you provide,” he shares.

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
