WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps Ryan Get His First Set of Hearing Aids
Ryan has worked as a letter carrier for over 20 years, serving the community of Oak Bay.
“I enjoy working outdoors and being a part of the community,” he shares. “I have moderate bilateral hearing loss. It impacts my interactions with customers on my route, and prevents me from hearing approaching vehicles (especially electric ones).”
His audiologist referred him to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding the hearing aids he needs for work.
“The program provided excellent encouragement to go ahead and acquire hearing aids for the first time, and provided generous funding,” he says.
Ryan says that he “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, and that the hearing aids have made a big difference on the job.
“I feel much more confident when communicating with the customers on my mail route. I am also much more aware of potential hazards such as vehicles and dogs,” he explains.
“I can provide better service when interacting with the public, and I feel much safer when walking along narrow streets with poor visibility.”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
