WorkBC Assistive Technology Services Helps Gloria on Her Way to a New Career
Gloria is studying web development and design, learning everything from coding to Photoshop as she looks to pursue a career in the field.
“I have profound hearing loss due to work related conditions,” she shares. “As I’m unable to properly hear individuals in surroundings with competing noise, it’s important that I’m able to be self-sufficient with a career that allows me to do much of my work and communication online and remotely.”
Receiving training from WorkBC Employment Services, her support staff referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for help funding new hearing aids. Through Assistive Technology Services, she was able to get the hearing aids she needs as she trains for a new career.
“I’m really grateful for the help with new hearing aids. Without the technology, it’s extremely hard to communicate with others,” Gloria says.
“I am able to communicate more effectively. While my hearing will never be perfect, it’s great to be able to hear many things I normally wouldn’t be able to. Being able to hear on the phone and computer with Bluetooth is essential.”
Gloria “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, saying that her future looks bright thanks to her new hearing aids.
“I’m still in a full time study program but the future is very promising. I have many great contacts and connections that I’ve worked with in the past and I’ll be able to tap those resources when my program is complete,” she says.
“I really appreciate having the help from WorkBC and [WorkBC Assistive Technology Services], I honestly don’t know what I would have done without their help and assistance with my hearing loss.”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
