“The Hearing Aids Have Enabled Me to Do My Job Better”

Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Roxanne, who works in childcare, received new hearing aids.

“For the first time in 15 years, I have two identical hearing aids providing me with 360 degree sound experiences and sound clarity. I am able to hear the child in my care from anywhere in the house, as well as cars or people that are not even in my vision yet. This gives me the confidence to know that I am able to provide better safety and care for the child in my care when we are out of the house. This is all thanks to the Assistive Technology Services Program approving me for funding. The application was straightforward and thorough, and the correspondence with the case managers were pleasant and informative,” she shares.

“The hearing aids have enabled me to do my job better because I am now able to hear and communicate with my employer more easily and carry out my employers’ requests without having to double check what she has said, due to the sound experience and clarity that the hearing aids provide. My employer is now able to communicate with me from another room in the house, and if my employer calls me on the phone it now rings in my ears thanks to Bluetooth connection so I never miss a call from her.”

Her employer has noticed a big difference in her work.

“She has also voiced her relief in knowing that I am able to hear any potential dangers outside of the house better now gives her a sense of security. Furthermore, if the child in my care is upstairs in the house and calls me I have no problem hearing her and can attend to her straight away,” Roxanne says.

“The biggest difference is being able to hear people talking to me clearly and being able to respond straight away without needing time to process what they have said or ask them to repeat themselves. The sound and clarity that the hearing aids provide truly sound like a whole different world than before. I no longer feel myself getting frustrated at not being able to hear certain things or people, and I feel the relief of everyone else around me at not having to repeat themselves.”

Roxanne commends the service she received from WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.

“I could not recommend [the] Assistive Technology Services program enough. They have provided me with a device that is truly beneficial in providing me with the support needed, as well as the confidence, to provide the highest care to the child in my care. They have also helped give me confidence in my daily life when communicating with other people and taking my own safety into consideration. The correspondence, support, and thoroughness throughout the process has been a pleasure,” she explains.

“I would like to thank [the] Assistive Technology Services program for approving me for funding for two new hearing aids. You have made a tremendous difference in my life and my career, and I could not express my appreciation enough. The last couple of years have been a struggle with my hearing loss and really old hearing aids not working as well as they should, and I have doubted my ability in my career with children many times because of it, but now I know that my hearing loss does not have to hinder my ability to provide care and tutoring to the child in my care any longer. It has been a life changing experience.”
