Less “Pain, Fatigue and Frustration” for Gail
Gail is the business development officer at a car dealership. As part of her job, she’s on the phone a lot, keeping clients happy and drumming up new business.
However, she’s been having a hard time hearing, especially over the phone.
“[It was] often difficult to hear or understand what clients were saying, and [I was] asking them to repeat themselves — and even then not always able to make out what they were saying,” Gail explains. “Very challenging as my work is mostly on the phone.”
She was also suffering pain from a job that sees her sitting at a desk for much of the day.
“I also have some back issues and find it difficult sitting all day,” she says. “[I have] problems as well with my right thumb and wrist, and inputting info and conversations into my computer. Lots of pain from this.”
A hearing specialist at NexGen Hearing referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.
Gail was amazed by the results.
“Assistive Technology Services was awesome,” she beams. “They have helped enormously by providing me with hearing aids, an ergonomic keyboard, vertical mouse, and a sit-stand desk. These have all helped me to do my job efficiently and reduce my pain, fatigue, and frustration.”
She’s happy not to have to ask people to repeat themselves on the phone, and is feeling a lot more comfortable over the course of a work day.
“I am less fatigued and less stressed at the end of my work day. I had no idea how much easier my job could be, thanks to the accommodations provided through the Assistive Technology Services program.”
Gail has been spreading the word of the program to people she knows.
“[The staff] have all been amazing to work with! They have all been so helpful, quick with their service, above and beyond reliable. They all genuinely want to help as well, and make our work experience easier, more efficient, and less painful,” she says.
“In this day and age, it’s been nice working with a team with so much integrity!”
