Kim Builds Her Self-Employment Opportunities With the Help of WorkBC Assistive Technology Services
Kim is a self-employed healthcare community support worker in Kelowna. Her duties include assisting her clients in daily tasks, supporting their emotional wellbeing, attending doctors appointments with clients, and providing support on recreational outings.
She was born with hearing loss in both ears.
“This has affected my ability in reaching out to potential new clients and businesses,” she explains.
Kim’s hearing aids weren’t working too well, but she couldn’t afford new ones. When she told her audiologist that she would have to “make do” with the old ones, her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for support.
“Assistive Technology [Services] helped by subsidizing [my] bilateral hearing aids,” she shares.
The new hearing aids have already made a big difference in her business.
“I can hear the individuals I support and am in the process of working on building my self-employment opportunities,” she says.
Kim “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.
“Thank you for having this service. It is life changing!”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
