Zhi, of Vancouver, has worked at a bakery for nearly 20 years. He does a little bit of everything, from packaging to preparing the dough to applying icing to cakes, even stepping in to do delivery across the Lower Mainland when required.

He’s a dependable hard worker who likes his workplace, having “made a lot of friends along the way.” He’s also been diagnosed with hearing loss in both ears.

“I can probably hear 10% of the environmental noise and verbal conversations,” Zhi admits. “This has tremendously damaged my ability to work and my work relationships. Imagine if you had to ask someone to repeat what they said plus speak up every time when someone speaks to you. That was me at work.”

His hearing specialist at the Wavefront Centre for Communication and Accessibility suggested WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.

Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Zhi was able to get a hearing aid.

“I have just received the hearing aid and am gradually using it in noisier environments. Initial test wearing allows me to have a normal conversation with colleagues again!”

Zhi “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.“It completely changed my life,” He exclaims. “My ability to hear has been restored to prime time.”
