Christine works at a daycare in Kelowna. Her job involves a lot of communicating and listening.

“My duties include communicating with the children’s parents, and my co-workers and supervisors. Answering phone calls, administering first aid if necessary and interacting with the children,” she shares. “I am severely hearing impaired and require two hearing aids to be able to fulfill my duties at work.”

Her old hearing aids were no longer getting the job done. She didn’t know what to do.

“I was at a loss as to how I was going to be able to afford new hearing aids to enable [me] to continue to work,” Christine says. “My old ones were no longer sufficient for my job.”

Her audiologist at NexGen Hearing referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services.

With financial assistance through the Assistive Technology Services, she was able to purchase two new hearing aids.

“I appreciate the financial help the program was able to provide,” she says, noting she would recommend the program to others in need.

“My ability to hear has greatly improved and this is making my work life much better,” Christine adds. “I am now able to hear more clearly when dealing with the children, staff and parents, also when I am required to answer the phone.”

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
