“I Was Able to Get My Confidence Back,” John’s New Hearing Aids Make a World of Difference
John is a veterinary technician working in Burnaby. His duties include working with pet owners to determine the animal’s medical history, as well as assisting the veterinarian during procedures like surgery. His job requires him to talk a lot on the phone.
He began having hearing difficulties in 2021, culminating with tinnitus in September of that year.
“[It] resulted in [me] losing 80% of my hearing. It was very challenging for me, it impacted me in a lot of ways I would have never imagined. Mentally, I felt left out,” he explains. “In terms of job searching, it was hard to find an employer who will understand my condition. (I’m glad I found a very supportive and caring team). Hearing plays a vital role in my daily life.”
His audiologist at HearingLife referred him to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for funding for hearing aids.
“[The] Assistive Technology Services program helped me financially to get my own pair of hearing aids. Through ATS, I was able to get my confidence back. I can say I am more confident and comfortable interacting with people,” he shares.
“With my hearing aids, I am able to carry out my role as a veterinary technician better and more efficiently.”
John “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.
“I can say I’m back to my old self because of my hearing aids,” he says. “In a veterinary field which includes customer service as well, communication is very vital. Without good hearing, it’s pretty challenging to carry out my tasks and duties efficiently. At work, with the help of my new hearing aids, it’s easier for me to communicate with my colleagues and clients.
“I just want to take this opportunity to thank WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for your support and generosity. I wish you all the best, and hopefully you continue to bring hope and happiness to other people and continue to be a blessing for others. Thank you.”
