“I No Longer Have to Guess What People Around Me Are Saying”
John works as a chef at a private school in Vancouver, providing food for about 1,000 students. He has severe hearing loss in both ears.
“This makes it very difficult for me to understand and communicate with my supervisors, co-workers, and clients,” he shares.
He applied to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services and was quickly approved.
“[The] Assistive Technology Services program helped me obtain significant funding in order to purchase my much needed hearing aids,” John says.
He has already seen a big difference during his workday.
“My hearing devices have had a significant impact on my ability to communicate with all staff members. Being able to hear allows me to be a more involved member of the team,” he explains.
“I no longer have to guess what people around me are saying. I have a much stronger sense of awareness around me. My devices have the ability to block out background noise enabling clearer communications.”
John says he would “most definitely” recommend WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others.
“I would like to thank the Assistive Technology Services team for helping me through every step in the process. Thank you very much!”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
