Hearing Aids Help Zach Ply His Trade
Zach is a journeyman electrician working in Squamish.
“I am mostly deaf in my left ear,” he explains. “It impacted my employment when being delegated tasks since my brains recognition to speech was slow. This increased my anxiety drastically, making it hard to focus.”
He had previously lost his hearing aid, and needed a new one. He had learned about the WorkBC Assistive Technology Services program from his mother, and decided to apply.
Through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, he received a hearing aid for his left ear. The hearing aid has made it much easier for Zach to understand orders at work.
“Since returning to work as a licensed journeyman electrician, it has helped a lot,” he shares. “I feel less anxious when being directed orders. I can feel more confident about these tasks because I am hearing clearly.”
When asked if he recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need, he beams, “Of course!”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
