Candace Continues Doing a Job She Loves With New Hearing Aids
Candace works as a recruiter for a regional health authority. Her job involves finding potential applicants online and at in-person events, as well as interviewing applicants.
“I love my job and plan to do it for as long as I can,” she says.
“I am bilaterally hearing impaired. This is a genetic condition that worsens over time and my hearing needs change. If I was not able to hear, I could not do any of my current tasks and would have to give up a job that I love. Not being able to have a meaningful conversation with everyone that I am in touch with would be detrimental to my work.”
When she needed new hearing aids, her audiologist at Connect Hearing referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services for funding. WorkBC Assistive Technology Services walked her through the application process, and before long she was approved.
“It was great to work with [staff] during this process,” she explains. “[They] stayed on top of me with things required so that I could get the support I needed.”
With her new bilateral hearing aids she received thanks to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, Candace can continue to do the job she loves.
“For sure I would recommend these services,” she says. “These [hearing] aids have allowed me to maintain healthy relationships with my colleagues and our employees and potential hires.”
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
