“Having These New [Hearing] Aids Enables Me to Continue Working In My Job”

Joanne is employed by a regional health authority, performing clerical and timekeeping processes. Her job involves working with many different departments.

“Over the last year, I developed a gradual hearing loss in both ears,” she shares. “This became noticeable when I had to ask colleagues to repeat themselves or I unintentionally didn’t respond to them. This affects communication and understanding as one of my duties is to interact with colleagues and employees and participate in meetings.”

She received funding through WorkBC Assistive Technology Services, enabling her to get the hearing aids she needs for work.

“This was very helpful due to some personal financial constraints and the high cost of the hearing devices,” she explains.

The new hearing aids have made a big difference at work.

“I feel more confident performing my duties more efficiently,” she says. “The hearing aids have really helped with communication as a lot of my job involves phone calls and in-person conversations. They are also invaluable when participating in meetings as I used to feel lost when there were so many people talking at once. Having these new aids enables me to continue working in my job.”

Joanne says she “for sure” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need.

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
