New Hearing Aids Help Karen Earn a Promotion
Karen works in the finance department of an organization, responsible for variance reporting, budget analysis, and reconciliation. She oversees two bookkeepers, and also answers the inquiries of managers, donors, and stakeholders. Recently, she has noticed a decline in her hearing, particularly affecting her ability to hear speech.
“Accuracy is vital for my work,” she says. “This is significantly impacting my ability to perform my duties as an accounting assistant and is also affecting my relationships with colleagues and vendors.”
Her audiologist referred her to WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to help fund the hearing aids she needs for work. She applied and was quickly approved.
“Assistive Technology Services helped me to afford such expensive technology, in combination with my workplace health plan,” Karen shares.
The hearing aids have made a big difference in her workday, even helping her to advance her career.
“I’m using hearing aids on both ears. It has been a wonderful tool in my day-to-day. I’m able to understand what is said to me, I don’t need to ask others to repeat. I have less misunderstandings. It has been a life changing tool for work, team dynamics, and client/donor relationships,” she says.
“I have taken on more responsibilities and have been recently promoted. I’m also going to represent the company in conferences, which I couldn’t do with my hearing loss.”
Karen says she “absolutely” recommends WorkBC Assistive Technology Services to others in need, saying that she has already referred people she knows.
WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
